 |
| How does the product work? |
| As wound fluid is absorbed the alginate forms a gel, which assists in maintaining a moist environment for optimal wound healing, and allows intact removal. The product releases silver ions in the presence of wound exudate. Zone of inhibition studies indicate that effective concentrations of ionic silver are released from the dressing for up to four days. Silver ions are antimicrobial, effective against a broad spectrum of microorganisms frequently associated with the bacterial colonization and infection of wounds. Restore Calcium Alginate Dressing, Silver is an effective barrier to bacterial penetration. |
 |
| What is the wet strength of a wound dressing? |
| Wet strength is an important attribute of alginate dressings, as it is a way of determining how effectively a dressing may absorb fluid and yet remain in one piece for easy removal from the wound bed. Samples are soaked in fluid, blotted dry, and then mounted in a tensile testing machine. Restore Calcium Alginate has demonstrated superior absorbency without sacrificing tensile strength—which means that the Restore Calcium Alginate dressings may be removed more easily and may leave less residual than other calcium alginates, thus reducing the need for irrigation that might damage new tissue. |
 |
| What are the instructions for use of this product? |
- Site Preparation: Debride when necessary and irrigate the wound site in accordance with standard protocols. Remove excess solution from surrounding skin.
- Dressing Selection: Select a dressing size that is slightly larger than the wound.
- Dressing Application: Cut (using clean scissors) or fold the dressing to fit the wound. Loosely fill deep wounds, ensuring the dressing does not overlap the wound margins. Apply to wound bed directly. Cover and secure the Restore Calcium Alginate, Silver Dressing with a non-occlusive secondary dressing.
- Dressing Change and Removal: Dressing change frequency will depend on wound condition and the level of exudate. Initially it may be necessary to change the dressing every 24 hours. Reapply Restore Calcium Alginate Dressing, Silver when the secondary dressing has reached its absorbent capacity or whenever good wound care practice dictates that the dressing should be changed. The dressing may adhere if used on dry or very lightly exuding wounds. If the dressing is not easily removed, moisten it with sterile saline solution prior to removal.

 |
| How does the product work? |
| In contact with wound exudate, a gel is formed, providing a moist environment that promotes healing. The dressing is non-adhesive, so removal is virtually pain-free and helps minimize damage to newly formed surrounding skin. It is ideal for use on wounds with fragile surrounding skin. The super-absorbent foam pad ensures drainage of exudate and helps protect the skin around the lesion from maceration. The backing is soft, pliable and conformable; it allows the dressing to be easily shaped to the anatomical contours of the wound. |
